Bio-diversity continues for Year 5

Although eco-week is over, the bio-diversity theme continued for Year 5 today with an interesting talk about sea life and the importance of looking after sea creatures. The Marine Conservation Society came to school and brought life size inflatables of many sea creatures.
We learnt about dolphins, jelly fish, turtles, sharks and many more sea creatures. We furthered our knowledge of food chains and learnt about plankton. The gentleman told us many interesting facts regarding sharks - did you know that you are 6 times more likely to be killed by a coconut falling from a palm tree than by a shark?

Some children participated in the discussion and asked some very interesting questions. The children were given a brochure full of facts about marine life. The year group were told about the importance of not throwing litter on beaches and understood the devastating consequences that this can have for sea life.
Another fascinating aspect of bio-diversity. If you are interested in finding out more about sea life, why not visit the marine conservation website and play a few games.
