Mountain Exploring!

We went to the Brecon Mountain Centre to look at some of the different features within the National Park. The weather wasn't very kind to us- it was windy and it poured down all day. We definitely got to experience what it would be like to try and survive in harsh conditions!

These are some of the bomb craters. We are trying to shelter from the wind and rain.

Here we are using actions to help us learn how glaciers formed in the Brecon Beacons.
This is a pond/ marsh habitat.

These are some of the stones left behind from a glacier.

Here we are pretending to be a Roman Army, climbing the hill to attack the Celts at the fort.
We've made it to the top!
Here we are trying to to have lunch in our survival shelters!

This is the the 4000 yr old standing stone.

Many thanks to our guides from the centre- they were excellent! Well done all, as the guides said that we were very well behaved. Da iawn!

Cleaning Up the Game.

On Monday we had a really exciting day visiting Cardiff City Football Stadium. Our topic this half term is all about recycling and how to make our community litter free. Here are some of our photos of the day. We went into the home and away changing rooms, hospitality suites, the chairman's room, ref room and a tour of the ground.
Don't forget we need to start collecting recycling objects for our enterprise project. Some groups have chosen to make the stadium while another group is making a football kit out of recycling material. So get collecting now!!!

Here we are at pitch side ( we weren't allowed on the grass)!

Here we are in hospitality.

In the manager and coach's area.

This is where the managers are interviewed. It is a very small area!

Working in the press room.

In the away changing rooms.

The home changing room baths. These usually have ice in them after a game.

The physio beds in the home changing rooms. The away rooms only have one!

This is the 'tactics' board.

A BIG thank you to Cardiff City Stadium, for letting us in! We had a great time, and found it really interesting. We are looking forward to our project!

Planning our designs.
Our visit to Brynpica recycling plant in Aberdare. These are drinks cans crushed together.

Making our models in our groups.

Sewing our kits and bags together.

Even Mr Williams, our DT co-ordinator was impressed!

Presenting our designs to Jamie from Cardiff City.

This is one of the football kit designs made from a shirt, a flag and a tea towel.

Here we are explaining our designs.

Jamie tested our bags to see if they were fit for purpose.

These are the finished bags.

 These are the finished stadiums.

Each design has included details that each group has found important.

Here are the winning designs- kit, stadium model and kit bag!

Jamie was extremely impressed with the effort and work of all involved and found it hard to choose a winner. I'm glad I wasn't a judge. Thanks again to Jamie and Cardiff City f or this opportunity.
Everyone worked very hard to produce a fantastic result, with little help from us teachers! This project has really showcased the children's ideas and abilities. Their conduct was excellent and their motivation brilliant. WE ARE VERY PROUD OF ALL IN YR 5. Da iawn of everyone!
