Practical Place Value

Mrs Marlow's maths group enjoyed their place value warm up activities in the yard last week.

The children developed communication and thinking skills as they were set the challenge to order 5 and 6 digit numbers as quickly as possible. Sounds easy? Not when all group members were trying to organise each other!

The teams quickly realised that group work and organisation was the key to success.
After ordering several sets of numbers, the children played place value games around the yard, running to certain stations if they answered "yes" to questions. E.g. "Run to the cabins if your tens of thousands digit is odd" or "Run to the centre of the netball court if your thousands digit is greater than 6"
