Brecon Beacons on Friday

Dear Parents,

Just a quick note to remind you that it is our Year 5 trip to the Brecon Beacons this Friday.

We will be taking part in a 5 mile walk across the Beacons starting at approximately 10.00 from the Visitor Centre. We will be accompanied by 4 members of staff from the Brecon Beacons and we will be taking 5 members of staff with us from school. Pupils are asked to wear a school jumper so that the children can be recognised easily, but may wear trousers that are appropriate for walking .

I spoke to the educational officer on the phone and she told me about the walk and advised that we adhere to the following guidelines:
a) Please ensure that your child has enough drink (preferably water/squash - nothing fizzy) to last the whole day, around 1 litre or two large bottles.
b) Sensible footwear e.g. walking boots (she said trainers would be ok as there isn't too much of a steep climb)
c) Waterproof coats are essential (knowing our luck it will be pouring down!)
d) A spare pair of socks and lightweight bottoms would be a good idea for the journey home in case it rains and we are soaking.
e) I forgot to ask her about a shop, but no doubt there will be one in the Visitor Centre, so if children want to bring money they can. (£5 should be ample)
f) An eco-friendly packed lunch would be ideal - we will need to carry our own waste with us.
g) Please can you send children to school with a rucksack and not a shoulder bag.
h) Please can you send any necessary medication i.e. asthma pumps/ tablets to school with your child on Friday morning with clearly labelled instructions for the class teacher. We will carry any necessary medication.
i) Please ensure that your child is at school by quarter to nine at the latest as we need to leave as soon as possible. We aim to leave the centre at around 2.30 pm, but the guide told me that we could be slightly later. We should be back between 3.30-4.00. A member of staff/ school secretary in school will be able to inform you where we are when you come to school at the end of the day.

Any further questions, just leave me a comment and I will reply as soon as possible.

Mrs Marlow.

P.S This letter will be sent home with the children tomorrow.
