Geography - Asking Questions

J5 worked on planning the next step of our geography topic yesterday. The task was to come up with a set of questions to ask people in the village regarding their views on parking , charges and general traffic in the village.

The learning objective was "To ask questions relevant to a geographical issue in the locality."

The children knew that to be succesful in their task, they had to come up with 5 questions that would provide them with answers relating to our topic and would give them data to evaluate at a later stage.

Here you can see some of the questions the children came up with. They were working collaboratively in groups.

The task was more difficult than first anticipated. The children had to really think about how useful their questions would be to our topic - they found this challenging and many groups came up with questions that weren't applicable. They all realised this and became more specific in what they were asking.

The children also had to come up with two sets of questions. Set 1 for people who walked to the village and Set 2 for people who came in the car.

The question above will be useful in plotting where our interviewees parked on a map.

This afternoon we will be using our ICT skills to write up our final questionnaires in the Computer Suite.
We will be going into the village in small groups to ask our questions - either later this week or early next week.
