Instructions: Listening skills
Today we began our work on writing instructions. First we watched a short video (see third link in previous post). This video explained some of the things we need to do to write clear instructions. We then played an instructions game (see first link in previous post). Finally we played another game in which the children had to follow my instructions to draw a picture on their white boards. Tomorrow, the children will sit in pairs and have to devise a set of instructions themselves. One child will be given a simple picture and will have to successfully convey instructions to their partner who will then have to draw the picture. We will then discuss how well the instructions were conveyed and how well they were interpreted by the listener.
