A Letter For Y5 Parents/Guardians
We have an important week next week. If you did not receive my letter tonight, click on the photo below....or, if you are VERY brave, rummage in the bottom of your childs bag!
Maths Update
Over the last week we have been concentrating on multiplication and division. We have looked at writing remainders as fractions and decimals. Here is a quick reminder. There are lots of games on previous posts....please try them out!

Over the next few weeks we will be looking at Odd and Even Numbers and Number Sequences. Here are some sites to help you prepare.

Instructional Writing: Pupil Example
On Wednesday we completed an assessed piece of work. Here is one very good example.
Mob, The Game.
Mob is such a great game, so I hope you all enjoy playing it. Mob is for any gender and any age.
You will need a huge place to play, with a lot of excellent hiding places. 5 -20 players.
- First, choose a caller by doing 'One Potato, Two Potato, Three Potato, Four'.
- Next, the caller counts to 50, slowly, while standing at the 'Mob Post'.
- After that, all of the other people hide in the best place possible in the area that your group have chosen.
- Then, when the caller has stopped counting and you think it is the right time to go, you run to the 'Mob Post' and shout when you get there. You say, 'save myself 1,2,3,' or if you are last say 'save all family 1,2,3.' You must get to the post before the caller, or you are out.
- If no one gets caught, the same person is 'on'.
- Finally, if the caller catches you and says 'Mob, Mob...........1,2,3', you are 'on'.
You casn play for as long as you like!
Rules
Only play by these rules.
If you are 'on', do not spoil it for everyone by opening your eyes.
When you are 'on', do not skip numbers when counting.
When you are 'on', do not cheat and say you have caught them when you haven't.
Did you enjoy the game?

Science: Investigating Temperature
Today we investigated the way in which the temperature of a beaker of water changes when ice is placed in the beaker. For this we needed a beaker, some water, ice and a thermometer. The water began at room temperature. We then placed two ice cubes in our beaker. We recorded the temperature of the water every 10mins. We noticed that the temperature of the water went down at our first reading, but then slowly increased. We will complete the investigation tomorrow. Remember to think of a way in which we can display our results.
Literacy: Instructional Writing
J7 have finished writing their instructions for their games. Today we took our instructions to Y2. We read our instructions to groups of Y2 children, who had to guess the games. We then took our small groups into the yard and played the games.
Maths: Division
In Maths this week we have been looking at division. We began by dividing numbers with remainders. We then moved on to converting those remainders into fractions and decimals. We used several strategies including playing games on the interactive white board, singing tables and using individual white boards to make sure we understood.
