Speaking and Listening Europe Presentations

J5 and J6 have had an extremely interesting day today doing their European presentations. The children have been preparing for their presentations for over two weeks and have had opportunities to look through class resources, European passports and also used the Internet to get additional facts about their countries.

Here we can see the children preparing their presentations for the final time before the real thing.

Plenty of last minute details being added here.

Here we go! We changed J5 into our very own lecture theatre. The children were asked to take notes on four of our 28 presentations. They could choose whichever presentations they liked and were asked to focus on "numeracy" - noting down numerical facts about the countries e.g. population.
Apart from note taking and preparing a presentation, the children were asked to comment on how well they thought they had done in their own presentation by completing a self-assessment sheet after their talk. They also had to complete a peer assessment sheet on the person who came after them in the register.

We were absolutely amazed at the high quality power points that some talking partners decided to produce! (Mr Llewellyn was getting worried about his ICT job!) The power points were so impressive that we are going to put them all on to the blog as soon as we have finished.

Plenty of interesting facts were talked about today including languages, food, sports and traditions in the countries.

We even had one group above who not only used a power point, but used a midi file on the Internet too so that we could hear the National Anthem of Poland.

The children really put some thought into their presentations and certainly kept the audience's attention by doing quiz questions at the end. It was fantastic to see the number of children who were eager to answer questions - super listening skills Year 5.

What a star! This young lady did her presentation even though her talking partner was away....... he was meant to wear the socks! It was interesting to see Irish artefacts.

The group above went a step further and both wore Spanish tops too - da iawn.

We still have six presentations to complete and will be listening to them tomorrow. We can't wait.
