A Busy Few Weeks in Year 5

What a busy few weeks we have had in year 5! We were given a challenge: Who can send a message the furthest using string? We had lots of different ideas. Some thought that the length of string would be most important. Others concentrated on the ear piece. The winner of the challenge was Jay's group. They received the 20 house points. Well done to all of year 5. Your ideas were fantastic and you worked hard this week using your independent thinking, cooperation and collaborative skills- Miss Harwood.

We have been doing lots of work on the poem The Highwayman By Alfred Noyes.

Here J6 are Hotseating the parts of The Highwayman, Bess and Tim the Ostler. They are being asked questions as the charcters, and answer them at the point where Bess is tied up and looking for The Highwayman through the window. If you want to watch a Video of the poem click below.

We have also been visited by the Cardiff Blues, they have given each class two sessions each which all the children really enjoyed. In PESS (PE) we have been covering our new gymnastic moves, they are gradually getting more difficult and require more strength and posture than previously.

We even took part in an Eco project as part of Climate challenge week.

We entered a competetion to come up with ideas to reduce waste and save energy. There were many excellent ideas- recycled parks, solar panels for streets, recycled models, and a machine to clean the beaches. Our winner, as voted for by the pupils, was Emilia's group. Their idea was to have a weekly/ monthly car free day. We will wait to see how we get on in the competition.

Some groups even made their own models at home to highlight the need to reuse, reduce and recycle. Well done girls.
