More Snaps Of A Fantastic Weekend In Llangrannog

After half term you will all have the opportunity to get a CD with all of the photographs on. Until then here are a few pictures to help you remember last weeks fun.

The horses were generally well behaved except for the one who kept head butting sir.

As hard as we tried to work together we couldn't get the magic stick to go down.

We can all snow plough now.

You were supposed to stay on the ropes boys.

Ah, a lovely evening walk with friends on the beach.

What a dance competition! This talented group won by far - they were such cool movers!!!! Watch out JLS!

I know, I know - Mrs Marlow always tries to get an arty photo in somewhere!!! In fact, a 5 minute rest after the "Magic Stick" challenge was well deserved.

Ski Sunday eat your heart out! What fun we all had on the slopes!

We even sang "Heads, shoulders, knees and toes" whilst doing our snow ploughs!

I know I said it would be funny if someone fell in the mud...............!

Well done Year 5, you all tackled the rope course well.

Lots of thinking skills were used to approach each section of the rope course.

What talent we have in Pontyclun! I hope nobody wolbbles the rope boys!

Two of our boys in their disco outfits! What taste! Nobody has told them that the disco isn't for another eight hours!!!!

Friday night millionnaire quiz in Welsh. Can you answer the question on the screen?

Well done Year 5 - it was such a pleasure taking you to Llangrannog on the weekend, your behaviour was outstanding and your enthusiasm for all the activities was great - even in the horrendous weather! All the staff and myself agreed that that was one of the most enjoyable trips we have been on. Da iawn.

Chocolate Fractions

Today in Year5 we had a maths problem solving day. One of the problems that we had to solve involved a chocolate bar that had 24 pieces. Here are the questions below. Have a go at the questions yourself- It will give you an excuse to go and get a large bar of chocolate...

Chocolate Fractions!!!

WALT - To search for solutions by trying out ideas of your own. Make general statements based on available evidence. To use fractions accurately and make link with decimals and percentages.

1. How many equal parts is your bar split into?
2. How many pieces would be in half your bar?
3. How many pieces would be in a quarter of a bar?
4. If you ate 4 pieces, what fraction would you have eaten?
5. If you ate 8 pieces, what fraction would you have left?
6. Draw a sixth of your bar (in squares – make them equal)
7. Draw a quarter of the bar, what is this amount as a decimal and a percentage? Can you find and equivalent fraction to a quarter? Find two equivalent fractions.
8. If you ate three quarters of the bar how many pieces of chocolate would you have left? What percentage is eaten? What amount is eaten as a decimal?
9. You are in groups of 4, if the first person has 1 piece, the second twice as much as the first, the third twice as much as the second etc..
How many pieces will the 4th person have?
How many pieces in total are eaten?
How many pieces are left?
What fraction is this of the whole bar?
Can you find an equivalent fraction to this amount?

Bore Dydd Llun - Year 5 as Playground Leaders

J5 and J6 have been given the opportunity to apply for the position of a "Young Leader" to help encourage younger children to play games on the yard. Twenty responsible children will be chosen to go on a course on Wednesday and learn the skills to become a "Young Leader". This morning, the children have been working in groups and creating their own games to play with younger children. They came up with some excellent games, including moving around as animals, games based on the Olympics and quick fire question games. Well done Year 5.
